Every job is photographed from the same spot at the start and the end. It is the only claim in this trade that cannot be written rather than shown.

Roof Cleaning
Moss removal on a semi-detached roof
- The surface
- Heavy moss across the whole north pitch, with growth thick enough at the ridge to hold water against the tiles.
- What we did
- Moss removed, the roof soft washed at low pressure, and the gutters cleared of the debris that came down with it.

Roof Cleaning
Concrete tile roof brought back
- The surface
- Uniform black staining over concrete tiles, with the original colour only visible under the verge.
- What we did
- Soft washed and treated with a biocide so the growth dies off rather than being driven into the tile.

Gutter Cleaning
Blocked gutter run cleared
- The surface
- A full run silted up with leaf litter and moss, standing water sitting behind the blockage.
- What we did
- Cleared from ground level by vacuum, then the run and the downpipe checked on camera.

Driveways & Patios
Block paved driveway and path
- The surface
- Moss and weed growth through the joints, with the paving colour lost under a green film.
- What we did
- Cleaned at a pressure the blocks could take, then the joints re-sanded so the growth has less to come back into.

Driveways & Patios
Timber decking stripped back
- The surface
- Algae across the full deck and a build-up of leaf debris in the board grooves — slippery underfoot.
- What we did
- Cleaned along the grain at reduced pressure so the timber was not furred up, and the grooves cleared out.

Driveways & Patios
Rear yard and hardstanding
- The surface
- Years of surface dirt across an enclosed yard that never gets direct sun.
- What we did
- Washed down in sections and rinsed out through the gully rather than into the border.
Where to start
What are you looking at?
Most people arrive here describing a symptom rather than a service. Start from the one that matches.
- The roof is green with mossNormal on an Irish roof and not urgent on its own — but moss holds water against the tiles and sheds into the gutters, so it becomes a drainage problem before it becomes a roof problem.Get this looked at
- The gutter overflows in heavy rainWater coming over the front edge means the run is blocked or has lost its fall. What it damages is the wall underneath, which costs considerably more to put right than the gutter. What to do first
- There is a damp patch on an inside wallOften a blocked gutter, a cracked downpipe, or a joint discharging against the render. Worth tracing to the outside cause before anything is done to the inside wall. What to do first
- One side of the house is greenThe north-facing elevation, almost always. It never dries fully, so algae establishes there first and comes back fastest if it is only washed off.Get this looked at
- The patio is slippery every autumnA film of algae rather than moss, and it is a safety problem as much as an appearance one. It lifts easily; keeping it off is about drainage and shade.Get this looked at
- Weeds are coming through the pavingUsually a sign the jointing sand has washed out. Cleaning without re-sanding afterwards makes it worse, because the joints are left emptier than they started.Get this looked at
- The white uPVC has gone grey-greenSoffits, fascias and gutter exteriors collect a film that a hose will not shift. It needs a cleaning agent and contact time, not more pressure.Get this looked at
- The conservatory roof is filthyGlass and polycarbonate both need doing top and bottom, and the box gutter behind them is usually holding debris nobody has been able to see.Get this looked at
- The solar panels have stopped performingDust, salt, lichen at the panel edges and bird mess all cut output. Cleaning is with deionised water so nothing is left on the glass as it dries.Get this looked at

Why Glan Exteriors
How the work gets done
Most exterior cleaning quotes describe the same job. What actually differs is the method, the access, and whether the growth is treated or just removed.
The right pressure, not the most pressure
A pressure washer will take moss off a roof and take the surface of the tile with it. Most of what we do is soft washing — low pressure and a treatment that kills the growth — because the surface has to still be there afterwards.
Ground level wherever the job allows
Vacuum poles reach a normal two-storey roofline from the ground, so most gutter and roofline work happens without anyone on a ladder. Where height genuinely needs it, that is a tower, and it is priced in rather than improvised.
You see inside the gutter
A cleared gutter looks identical to a blocked one from the ground. Camera footage before and after is the difference between being told the work was done and seeing that it was.
Service area
Exterior cleaning across Ireland
Where a job is worth travelling for and where it is not is an honest conversation, and it is quicker to have it on the phone than to guess from a coverage map.
Dublin
Most of our work is in Dublin, and we cover Galway and Cork as well. Exterior cleaning is a travelling trade — the equipment comes to the property — so if you are near the edge of that, it is worth asking rather than assuming. That is a quicker conversation than a coverage map.

Questions
What people ask before booking
Answers about how exterior cleaning behaves. Where the answer depends on your specific house, it says so.
- Does roof cleaning damage the tiles?
It can, and that is why the method matters more than the machine. A high-pressure lance will strip moss off a concrete tile along with the granular surface that protects it, which leaves the tile more porous than it was and shortens its life. Soft washing works the other way round: low pressure to remove the bulk, then a biocide treatment left to kill the growth at the root over the following weeks. Slate, clay and concrete all behave differently, and fragile or delaminating tiles are a reason not to clean a roof at all rather than a reason to be gentler.
- How often should gutters be cleaned in Ireland?
Once a year suits most houses, and the useful timing is late autumn once the leaves are actually down rather than mid-way through. Twice a year is worth it where there are mature deciduous trees close to the roofline, where the roof carries moss that keeps shedding into the gutter, or where the gutter has a shallow fall and silts up rather than draining. The signal to look sooner is water coming over the front edge in heavy rain, a downpipe that stays dry while the gutter overflows, or a stained line on the wall underneath.
- What is the difference between soft washing and pressure washing?
Pressure washing removes growth mechanically with force, and is right for hard surfaces that can take it — concrete, block paving, most natural stone. Soft washing removes it chemically at very low pressure, using a treatment that kills algae, moss and lichen so they die back and weather off. Roofs, render, painted surfaces, uPVC and timber are soft wash work. Using pressure where soft washing is called for is the single most common way exterior cleaning causes damage, and the damage usually shows up as a surface that gets dirty faster afterwards.
- How long does exterior cleaning last?
It depends on what was done and on the aspect. Growth returns fastest on north-facing surfaces, under trees, and anywhere that stays damp because it never gets direct sun. Work that only removes what is visible tends to look poor again within a season. Work that includes a biocide treatment lasts considerably longer, because the growth is killed rather than displaced. Nobody can put a reliable figure on it for a specific house without seeing the aspect, the surface and what is growing on it.
- Do you need access to water and electricity?
A tap is needed. Pure-water systems for glass, solar panels and roofline work run from a tank of deionised water, which is what allows those surfaces to dry without spotting, but that tank has to be filled and the machines fed on site. What matters alongside it is vehicle access close enough to run hoses, and somewhere to set up that does not block a shared driveway.
- Will the treatment harm plants or pets?
The biocides used for roofs and render are applied at controlled dilution and are the standard products for the trade, but they are still chemicals and they are treated as such. Practically that means soaking beds and lawns beside the work area before and after so anything that drifts is diluted immediately, directing runoff to a gully rather than a border, and keeping pets indoors while an elevation is being treated and until it has dried. Ponds are the one case worth flagging in advance, because they need covering properly rather than rinsing.
- Can gutters be cleaned without ladders?
On most two-storey houses, yes. A vacuum system with carbon-fibre poles reaches a standard roofline from the ground, with a camera on the end so the inside of the run can be seen before and after. It is safer, it does not put ladder feet on flowerbeds or conservatory roofs, and it works in places a ladder physically cannot stand. Some jobs still need height access — a third storey, a box gutter, an internal valley — and those are quoted with a tower rather than attempted from a ladder.
- What exterior cleaning services does Glan Exteriors provide?
Roof cleaning and moss removal, gutter cleaning and clearing, driveway, patio and decking cleaning, render and exterior wall washing, soffit, fascia and uPVC cleaning, conservatory roof and solar panel cleaning, and commercial exterior cleaning. The focus is domestic exterior cleaning, with commercial work in the range a service contractor handles rather than industrial rope-access projects.
